Guidelines for Safer Fire Juggling
  1. Never wear artificial fibre when juggling fire. Torches will melt the cloth onto you and cause burns. Wear only natural fibres such as wool or cotton.
  2. Only use paraffin as fuel. Other fuels can burn too hot for safety, or produce toxic fumes.
  3. Don't wear hairspray or hair gel whilst fire juggling, as these products are highly inflammable.
  4. If you have long hair, tie it back.
  5. If you stop juggling while the torches are lit, hold them with the wicks uppermost, to prevent burnt knuckles and damage to the handles.
  6. Always keep your paraffin away from where you are juggling.

This torch is a brand new innovation from Mr Babache. A three tiered, rubber disc at the base of the shaft prevents the paraffin from seeping down the handle, and a waterproof joint prevents it from leaking into the handle. The shaft has a roll of 50mm copper wired wick screwed into it at the end. All the torches have silver handles.

Care & use of your torches

These rules are set out for torch jugglers. The general rules, however, apply to all fire equipment. Always read supplied instructions.
  1. Remove any plastic film from your clubs (sometimes used to protect the decoration).
  2. Pour some paraffin into a jar, then put the lid back on the paraffin bottle.
  3. Soak each wick thoroughly.
  4. Swing each torch in turn at arms length to shake off any excess paraffin.
  5. Light the torches, making sure to keep the wick end uppermost.
  6. When first lit the flames will be quite big. If you are worried about juggling them while the flames are very large, swing the torches at arms length to burn off some of the fuel.
  7. Don't keep juggling until the torches burn out, as this will damage the wick: When the flames are very small, blow the wicks out. If you wish to re-fuel torches you can do so safely straight away. If you have finished juggling, let the torches cool, then put a little paraffin on the wicks and wrap them in cloth - an old tea-towel for instance. This will extend the life of your wicks.
